P.V. Poseur's Morals
Antishipping vs. Proshipping
I am not a fan of these two terms in the slightest. The reason for this is because of how vastly different the definitions mean from person to person. At the end of the day, what matters is whether or not a person is able to do the following:
- Do their research on the topic at hand (especially if unfamiliar with the topic at hand),
- Give a proper warning about writing said topics in advance (not all victims are okay with reading/writing certain topics),
- Separate fiction from reality (continue reading to understand why), and
- Respect the topic they are writing about (this is for the sake of all victims of the topic at hand).
Now for those of you wondering why I said for you to continue reading, the reasons are down below:
- A mass murderer reading, writing, drawing, watching, or interacting with anything fictional pertaining to killing regularly without remorse is not justifiable.
- A pedophile reading, writing, drawing, watching, or interacting with anything fictional pertaining to minors is not justifiable.
- A rapist reading, writing, drawing, watching, or interacting with anything fictional pertaining to Sexual Assault Victims is not justifiable.
This has, in fact, been scientifically and psycholotically proven to make things worse on their behalves. Not better. The reason for this is generally due to their inability to separate fiction from reality, mental illnesses, and being unable to seek proper treatment sooner rather than later.
Canon Compliant vs. Canon Divergent
I hate being the one to say it, but all fanfics are canon divergent. The reason I say this is because, technically speaking, only way a fanfic can be canon compliant is if it were a 100% novelization of the given fandom, itself. Case in point? X-Men: A Novelization. Another example is Batman Arkham Knight: The Official Novelization.
Are there going to be minor differences between the X-Men movie and X-Men novel? Probably, yes. But the novel is still canon compliant because the authors were asked to make a novel version of everything that took place in the film which, by default, makes it canon compliant. About the only way it would not be considered "canon compliant" — aka CANON DIVERGENT — is if there are so many differences between the two medias to the point where you might as well consider it to be it's own thing (such as inconsistencies, AUs, alternate endings, etc.).
We then have unique cases like Bleach's Thousand-Year Blood War arc being animated and it all being canon because Tite Kubo was rushed (as well as having a lot of health issues). So with him helping and getting his hands metaphorically dirty, as well as stating it himself, means that the animated version of the TYBW arc is 100% canon compliant even if there are stuff that did not show up in the manga.
Something else worth mentioning is that we are not all going to have the same views on what is either "canon compliant" or "canon divergent". And this mostcertainly include peoples loving the same exact character. We are not all going to have the same headcanons, thoughts, and opinions. And that is okay! We just all need to come to the harsh realization that, unless stated otherwise, our fanfics are canon divergent by default, regardless to the characters being "in character" or "out of character".
Generative AI
I am very much anti-AI and do not consider any (and all) works strictly made from the likes of ChatGPT, Midjourney, and other AI Bots to be Transformative Works in any way, shape, or form. If you disagree with me on this, then feel free to go elsewhere that allows people to create fanfiction using Generative AI - like Archive Of Our Own.
It is one thing to use a language translator (such as DeepL), editing program (Grammarly), or anything to help those who are disabled. But using Generative AI is very much frowned upon not only by me, but a vast majority of people all over the world. Even the famous Hayao Miyazai is against the usage of Generative AI.
With all of that said and done, I will be upfront and state that I do not use ChatGPT (or anything similar to it) to create my fanfics for they are all very much original and come from me, myself, and I. I do, however, use programs such as Hemingway Editor and DeepL Write for editing and educational use. If you are pro-AI and consider fanfics made with it to be "Transformative Works" in any way, shape, or form then my fanfics are not for you.
Original Characters
I do not trust people who are "anti-OCs". The reason for this is because so many people have this belief that the only way a character like Son Goku or Ash Ketchum is no longer an "original character" is if they get published. This mindset is, in my opinion, flawed because they were still created by someone for something. The only difference between, say, my OCs and Tite Kubo's OCs is that I have not published anything while Tite Kubo has.
However, this is not me saying that you have to love each and every single OC you stumble upon, no. The reason for this is because, like various canon characters, there are going to be OCs that you genuinely cannot stand and/or outright hate. That is fine, normal, and to be expected. But to say that you are "anti-OC" is, in fact, you saying that you are "anti-Canon Characters". And this does, in fact, go for all genders.
Something else worth mentioning is the misogynistic and sexist views towards overpowered female characters. For some Godforsaken reason, many people have come to this farfetched conclusion that female characters cannot be both well-written and overpowered. That this is an oxymoron of sorts. I wholeheartedly disagree with this statement because I have lost count the number of times I have encountered an anime, video game, comic book, or tv show where the male character is not only crazy over-powered, but there is literally no explanation for it whatsoever. Why is this okay? Because it should not be.
With all of that said and done, I will be upfront and state that all of my fanfics do, in fact, consist of Canon/OC pairings. I also tend to write overpowered and well-written female characters - especially female OCs. If you are against these types of pairings in any way, shape, or form then my fanfics are not for you.
